The Bad: What Gamma Gets Wrong

1. PPTX Export is the Achilles' Heel

Gamma's PowerPoint export flattens dynamic layouts into static images, breaks font consistency, and often shifts formatting. Gamma's official documentation acknowledges this.

If your primary workflow requires handing off .pptx files to stakeholders who need to edit them, Gamma will frustrate you.

2. The Free Tier is Smarter Than You Think (And That's a Double-Edged Sword)

The free plan gives you 400 lifetime credits, not monthly. A full deck generation costs 40 credits. Adding a card costs 5. AI images cost 10.

Once credits are gone, you can edit existing decks but cannot generate new AI content until you upgrade or earn 50 credits per referral (capped at 4 referrals, max 600 total).

3. Data Integrity Can Be an Issue

If you import a document with precise numbers, Gamma might simplify it. For financial or data-heavy reports, you need to manually verify every number.

4. Limited Brand Control

You can set colors and fonts, but Gamma doesn't support uploading custom corporate templates. If your company has strict brand guidelines, Gamma will approximate but not enforce them.

If you need to produce a deck that will be presented on a screen, shared via link, and viewed by an audience that cares about aesthetics and clarity, Gamma is genuinely excellent.

If you need to send .pptx files that stakeholders will open and edit in PowerPoint, Gamma will cost you cleanup time that erases your speed gains.

The honest take: use Gamma to draft and present. Use PowerPoint to export if you must. But don't expect the export to feel native. It won't.
